One of the best things about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the opportunity to feed a giraffe.  They have these amazing long purple tongues that can reach out and wrap around things.  Even with their long necks and legs they still extra length to get to the leaves in trees.  Moxie, perched up on her father’s shoulders, was not sure what she thought.  Strider, though, enjoyed having his head licked.  He’s always been weird like that.

Moxie is surrounded by various giraffe friends.  One has to have a certain set of skills to care for a giraffe–let alone a herd of them.  Here’s how Moxie gets them to go to sleep.  She plays with them and hugs them and shows them that she cares.  The best part is when she sings to them.  (Notice Pili in the background hoping to copy some of Mox’s trade-craft.)

Moxie has a pet giraffe.   Aunt Sam bought Moxie the giraffe before she was even born.  Given the Post-9/11 ban on exotic animals flying commercial, we haven’t been able to get Moxie and Twiga together.  She hasn’t ever met Twiga but their relationship has already started.  We’ve had some Twiga sightings.

This is a really fun cool thing Sam, Bibi, and Babu are setting up for Moxie.  We thought we would share the first few photos with you.  We will keep everyone updated on Twiga’s adventure.

We have decided to start sharing the joy of Twiga with all of your.  This became especially timely when Twiga made an appearance in Bethesda of all places!
