We had our family pictures taken by our dear friend Becky.  Her darling little boy is Moxie’s crush Owen (he’s 9 months old, beautiful blue eyes, and an expert crawler).  Anyway, Becky was kind enough to come over to our place and take pictures of our zany bunch.  Bibi was there to help with logistics and we snapped a few pictures of her too.

Moxie skipped her nap that morning so she wasn’t as cheery as she usually is.  However, Becky worked her magic and got some cutie-patootie-ness to come through.

Here’s some of our favorites:

The Dorsey-Lees took a trip with the Lessin family to see just how cool those Nordic folks are.  Turns out, they are pretty cool.  They had a minimalist lego set up for kids: tables and legos.  We were expecting something more Legoland-ish but the simplicity simply proved their point.  Moxie chewed on them, Noa ran from table to table playing with others, and Ari built amazing star ships and flying machines.  Oh, Tracy built a parking structure.  Also: Nordic Cool had a wood maze that Ari and Noa owned.  We wrapped up with sandwiches for lunch.  It was really fun and we really like hanging out with Lessins.

Moxie and I had a great baby brunch with our friends.  Moxie and her favorite friend Owen had a moment where first he tried to love her and then she poked him in the eye.  Moxie was really great.  She sat and laughed at her friends, watched me while I interacted with other babies, took a little nursing break, and then got right back into the action.  It is fun to see all the babies grow.  Some babies are crawling or scooting, others are still learning to roll over, and some, like Moxie, are just learning the magic of sitting up.  Everyone shared toys–if there was a cold in the house they all caught it.

These brunches are so great.  I learn tricks from the other moms, commiserate about various baby related challenges, and watch really cute babies do their thang.

Hopefully this isn’t what I always look like when I am listening.

Moxie has some serious tweedles.  She has serious who hairs.  Still don’t know what I am talking about?  She has bajillions of tiny thin mini hairs that grow on her forehead.  Here is a picture (of the whole fan–but focus on the tweedles) to show you the seriousness of what I am talking about.

Also: homegirl can rock a ponytail.

Moxie and I spent a few hours on Saturday with some fellow moms and babes.  Our host’s husband made us waffles and fresh whipped cream.  Everyone brought stuff to share.  We brought a pastry from the Grumpy Bakery at 4 Corners.  It isn’t actually called “Grumpy Bakery” but the old ladies running the show are almost never friendly and almost always grumpy.  They do, however, make some seriously delicious stuff.  Strider loves their apple fritters if anyone comes to visit.

Anyway, Moxie and I had a great time hanging out.  Moxie, being one of the youngest, hasn’t caught up with her friends on rolling over.  But she still destroys all of them with her hair.  The mom who hosted took pictures of the brunch and here are a few:

This afternoon I left my windowless office to discover the weather jumped from the 20s to 70! When I got home Strider and I put the leashes on the dogs and Moxie in her stroller. But wait! We not only put her in the stroller but we did it like a big girl. That’s right, Moxie now rides like a boss. She faces out, without the car seat, and did great. She enjoyed the walk and too in the sights. Towards the end she got really comfortable and starting talking to all the neat stuff she was seeing. It was a great day. I love our little family.

We wrote to all our congress people requesting tickets and didn’t hear back from a single one of them.  Obama sent us a commemorative set of tickets. No one came through. But then one of the mamas in my mother’s group sent an email around to see if anyone wanted to go.  I wrote her back right away.  You see, she and I knew each other pretty well–a couple of months ago I brought her 200 oz of breast milk. Her supply was low and she needed some extra while got things going on her end.

We met up with our friend Ernie at the Green Ticket gate and headed in.  People were really friendly and helpful generally but were extra super special nice when they saw we had a baby.  It was great.  Moxie slept through most of it but it was really cool all the same.

Here’s some pictures:

Turns out, having a kid doesn’t make you instantly grow up.  Thank god.  Moxie is a champ when it comes to gas.  She farts louder than Strider and burps more often than Jess.  She is really going to give us a run for our gastrointestinal money.  Also: the face she makes when she is pooping is priceless.  Like the kind of thing we will remember to tell her first sweetheart.  Actually, we might just show this blog post.  Bam!
